Delhi rains
Delhi’s skies may have looked calm on Sunday, but a change is on the horizon. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by rain across the Capital and its neighbouring cities: Noida, Gurgaon, Faridabad and other parts of the NCR, on Monday.

On Sunday, the national capital recorded a maximum temperature of 34.4°C, while the minimum dipped to 25.1°C, slightly below the seasonal average. Humidity was on the higher side, with relative humidity recorded at 80 per cent by late evening.

What to expect on Monday

According to the IMD, residents of Delhi-NCR should brace for rain showers with the possibility of thunder. Temperatures are likely to hover around 35°C during the day and 24°C at night. This could bring some relief from the muggy conditions of the weekend while adding a refreshing touch to the air.

Sunday’s patchy showers

Weather conditions over the region remained mostly dry on Sunday, with only scattered rainfall reported. The Ridge recorded 5.7 mm of rain, while Mayur Vihar and Pitampura saw 16 mm and 1.5 mm, respectively. In contrast, stations like Safdarjung, Palam, Ayanagar, Pusa, Najafgarh and Janakpuri reported no measurable rainfall at all, showing how patchy showers were across the NCR.

Air quality remains satisfactory

For now, the skies may be heavy with clouds, but the air is relatively clean. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 74 at 4 pm on Sunday, placing Delhi firmly in the ‘satisfactory’ category. To put this in perspective:
  • 0–50: Good
  • 51–100: Satisfactory
  • 101–200: Moderate
  • 201–300: Poor
  • 301–400: Very Poor
  • 401–500: Severe

A wet start to the week?

With the IMD predicting thunderstorms and rain, Monday could bring a damp but much-needed start to the week for Delhi-NCR. While the downpour may cause delays for commuters, it is also likely to ease humidity and keep the city’s air in better shape for a little while longer.
