As the largest motorway in India, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will improve connectivity between the two major cities.

The flagship project of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, has come a long way since its inception. Once completed, the 1386 km eight-lane highway is expected to cover the distance between the two cities in 12 hours. This will be India's largest expressway and one of the world's fastest-built expressways.


It will cross five states: Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. The Delhi-Mumbai motorway will run from the DND flyover in Delhi and Sohna in Haryana to Virar and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Maharashtra, making it the country's largest motorway once completed. It will also improve connectivity to cities such as Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara, among others, bringing economic prosperity to a large number of people.



The groundbreaking project began in 2018, with the foundation stone laid on March 9, 2019. Last year, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari stated that the motorway would be nearly completed by December. It is said to require 80 lakh tonnes of cement and 10 lakh tonnes of steel. It is said to include 80 lakh tonnes of cement and 10 lakh tonnes of steel.


The total cost of the massive infrastructure project is estimated to be around Rs 1,03,000 crores, with revenue from construction, roadside hotels, restaurants, and petrol pumps expected to be enormous. It was also revealed that 1,368 kilometres were awarded, 724 kilometres were constructed until October 2022, and the remaining 18 kilometres will be awarded by March 2023.

The 214-kilometre stretch from Delhi to Dausa (Jaipur) and the 100-kilometre stretch from Vadodara to Ankleshwar were scheduled to be completed by December 2022. Once operational, the route will cut the travel time from Gurugram to Dausa in half. It currently takes 4-5 hours to travel the distance. The Expressway could be ready for use by FY24.
