Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is all set to launch India’s first virtual shopping app, allowing passengers to buy a variety of items and arrange services while riding the metro. Commuters will also be able to pick up their orders at the destination stations.

The Delhi Metro will release ‘Momentum 2.0’, a specifically created application. It will give its consumers immediate and direct access to customised services such as last-mile connection alternatives, a wide range of e-commerce possibilities, and digital lockers for speedy and secure delivery.

Other features of the Delhi Metro app would include rapid recharging of Metro Smart Cards and smart payment choices for other utility services. In addition, the app will provide last-mile connection, virtual storefronts for shopping, and digital lockers at metro stations.


Connectivity to the last mile

The Delhi Metro app will allow users to book bikes, e-rickshaws, cabs, and view the schedules of feeder buses, DTC buses, and cluster bus routes from Delhi Metro stations.

"Invitees and ticket holders having valid invitation cards/admit cards/ticket along with a government-issued photo ID will be allowed to avail metro services free of cost," the defence ministry said.

Buying at online retailers

The software provides e-commerce functionality with a diverse selection of things to pick from. This revolutionary Brick & Click Shop experience will allow customers to purchase groceries and other vital things at metro stations.

Selected companies will show their products and services in the app using extended reality techniques, and passengers may simply utilise a QR code system to shop for things while waiting for their train.

Smart shopper's digital lockers

DMRC is in the midst of constructing Digital Lockers known as ‘Smart Boxes’ at chosen stations, where products acquired via e-commerce on this app may be safely placed and retrieved by the respective customers once they arrive at their destination station.

The software will also allow for smart payments. Recurring payments such as insurance, electricity, gas payments, or FASTag recharge may be done conveniently by setting up automated instructions.

The App will give extensive information on metro station infrastructure such as the location and condition of gates, lifts, escalators, platforms, train scheduling, coach occupancy, and space availability.

Customers can obtain real-time information on train arrival times, station locations, and exit gates, subject to operational capability.

Delhi Metro app will also allow travellers to reserve bikes/cabs before exiting the Metro and have the vehicle ready when they arrive at their destination station. The app will also provide information about the stations’ stores, outlets, kiosks, and ATMs.
