A video allegedly showing a man urinating inside a Delhi Metro station has gone viral on social media, drawing sharp criticism from commuters and reigniting concerns over civic sense in public spaces. The clip prompted an official response from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which appealed to passengers to help maintain cleanliness across its network.

DMRC responds to viral video

Reacting to the widely shared video, the DMRC urged commuters to stay alert and report such behaviour immediately. In a statement, the corporation said:

"DMRC requests all its passengers to help in keeping the premises clean and hygienic. If passengers notice any such activity by a fellow passenger, they should immediately bring the same to the notice of DMRC authorities,"

The appeal comes as the video triggered a wave of criticism online, with many users expressing anger over hygiene violations in a system used by lakhs of people every day.

Social media outrage over ‘poor civic sense’

The video drew strong reactions from users, many of whom described the act as “shameful” and “deeply disturbing.” Several questioned why basic civic responsibility continues to be ignored in shared public spaces.

One user wrote that such behaviour “undermines the effort put into maintaining public infrastructure,” while another demanded strict penalties to prevent similar incidents in the future. Many users tagged the DMRC, urging the authorities to take firm action and strengthen enforcement of cleanliness norms.

The user who shared the video highlighted a broader concern and wrote, “Civic sense is seriously lacking among many people in Delhi. In metro premises, some openly urinate or even let children do the same. There's a worrying lack of basic civic responsibility in the nation's capital.”

Another user reacted angrily and commented, “Identify, Arrest, and set an example for other urchins.”

Reflecting the frustration of daily commuters, one more user wrote, “People think of Delhi metro as home. They make out, pee, and do whatever they like. It's high time govt. takes some action. Delhi is our capital city, we don't wanna ruin it.”

The intense reaction to the video suggests that the issue goes beyond one incident. For many commuters, it highlights a recurring problem around how public transport spaces are treated. With the Delhi Metro handling massive daily footfall, such episodes continue to raise uncomfortable questions about responsibility, respect, and public behaviour.
