Delhi Metro Closures, July 25: 18 stations to remain shut; only interchange allowed at 3 key stations. Check full DMRC advisory

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that 18 metro stations across central Delhi will remain closed from 7.30 am on Saturday (July 25) until further instructions due to security arrangements amid the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest near Jantar Mantar.

The announcement comes a day after entry gates at Mandi House and Central Secretariat stations were briefly reopened on Friday evening.

DMRC announces closure of 18 metro stations

In a post on X, the DMRC said the following stations will remain closed from 7.30 am on July 25:

1. Lok Kalyan Marg
2. Rajiv Chowk
3. Patel Chowk
4. Ramakrishna Ashram Marg
5. Barakhambha Road
6. Supreme Court
7. Seva Teerth
8. Janpath
9. Mandi House
10. Central Secretariat
11. ITO
12. Delhi Gate
13. Indraprastha
14. Khan Market
15. Jor Bagh
16. Shivaji Stadium
17. Jhandewalan
18. New Delhi

The DMRC added: "Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted."

Interchange facility to remain available at three stations

Despite the closures, the DMRC said interchange facilities will continue to be available at:

• Rajiv Chowk
• Mandi House
• Central Secretariat

Passengers will, however, not be able to enter or exit these stations.

Metro restrictions continue for fourth day

The latest advisory means commuters will continue to face extensive travel disruptions as restrictions enter a fourth consecutive day.

On Friday, 17 metro stations remained closed throughout the day before Mandi House and Central Secretariat reopened later in the evening. Earlier in the day, New Delhi Metro station was also closed, taking the total number of affected stations to 18.

The repeated closures have affected thousands of office-goers, students, lawyers and rail passengers travelling through central Delhi.

Security tightened near Jantar Mantar protest site

Security has remained heightened around Jantar Mantar, where the CJP-led protest has been taking place.

At Janpath Metro station, the closest station to the protest venue, CISF personnel covered glass panels at the station entrance after graffiti appeared in parts of the protest area.

Authorities have maintained that the station closures are being implemented purely as a precautionary security measure.

Lawyers and commuters continue to face disruption

The prolonged restrictions have forced many commuters to depend on road transport, leading to longer travel times and increased congestion in central Delhi.

The closures have also affected access to the Supreme Court. Earlier this week, the Supreme Court Bar Association approached the apex court, stating that the closure of several metro stations had made it difficult for lawyers and litigants to reach court.

The DMRC has advised passengers to check the latest service updates before travelling, as the restrictions will remain in force until further instructions from the authorities.
