In a heartbreaking incident in Delhi’s Dwarka area, a father and his two young children died after jumping from their apartment to escape a massive fire. The fire broke out on the top two floors (eighth and ninth) of a building in Sector 13’s Sapath Society on Tuesday morning.

Children jumped first in panic

Police said two children, a boy and a girl aged between 10 and 12, jumped from the eighth-floor balcony in an attempt to save themselves. They were seriously injured and rushed to Akash Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Father followed in desperation

Soon after, their father, 35-year-old Yash Yadav, also jumped from the same spot. He was taken to IGI Hospital, but he too could not be saved. Yadav, according to police, ran a flex board business. His wife and niece were also injured in the incident and are being treated at Akash Hospital.

Horrifying visuals and rescue efforts

Shocking visuals from the scene showed thick black smoke and flames pouring out of the upper floors. People from nearby buildings could be heard crying and praying for help as the fire grew larger. A woman filming from the next building was heard saying, “God help them!”

Many residents tried to escape by smashing windows and climbing onto balconies. While those on the lower floors managed to flee quickly, people on higher floors had a terrifying time trying to escape.

Fire services and police response

The Delhi Fire Service received the first call at 10:01 am. Initially, eight fire engines were sent, but more were added as the fire spread. By the time firefighters reached, flames were already leaping out of the building.

The police said all residents were eventually evacuated, and electricity and PNG supplies were cut off to prevent further damage. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have been asked to inspect the building's structural safety.

Cause still unknown

The exact cause of the fire is not yet clear. Firefighters were still working to fully douse the flames by Tuesday afternoon. The tragedy has left the area shaken, with locals mourning the loss of innocent lives.
