Delhi man dies after allegedly shooting himself while his cousin records video

A 28-year-old man allegedly shot himself in the chest while his cousin was filming a video of him loading a pistol in east Delhi’s Dallupura area, police said on Tuesday.

The incident surfaced on March 16 when the New Ashok Nagar police station received information from Dharamshila Hospital in Vasundhara Enclave regarding a medico-legal case involving a gunshot injury, officials said.

Victim Admitted to Hospital in Unconscious Condition

When police reached the hospital, they found that the injured man, identified as Pawan Kumar from Dallupura village, had been admitted in an unconscious state after suffering a gunshot wound on the left side of his chest.


Doctors attempted to treat him but later declared him dead during treatment, police said.

Incident Captured on Camera

According to investigators, the entire incident was recorded on video. The person filming, identified as Himanshu, who is the deceased’s cousin, appeared unaware of Pawan’s intentions.

In the video, which has circulated widely on social media, Pawan is seen inserting a magazine into a licensed pistol and preparing the weapon. Meanwhile, Himanshu can be heard advising him about the safe handling of the firearm and warning him against firing it.

Moments later, Pawan places the pistol against the left side of his chest, briefly looks toward the camera and pulls the trigger. He then collapses on the ground as Himanshu reacts in shock.

Weapon Seized by Police

Preliminary investigation revealed that the pistol used in the incident belonged to Himanshu. Police have seized the weapon along with 10 live cartridges.

Authorities have also taken the mobile phone used to record the video into custody, and other relevant evidence has been collected from the scene.

Case Registered, Investigation Underway

The body of the deceased has been shifted to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Police have registered a case under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the BNS and relevant provisions of the Arms Act at the New Ashok Nagar police station.

Further investigation into the incident is currently underway, police said.
