Delhi Launches Intensive School Inspection Drive (representative image)

In a major move to boost learning outcomes, the Delhi government has rolled out a rigorous inspection drive that will continue until February 2026. The initiative places government school classrooms, teaching methods, student progress, and overall academic delivery under close scrutiny. The Directorate of Education (DoE) has issued strict instructions for officials to visit schools three times a week to ensure learning gaps are spotted early and rectified before they widen.

What the New Inspection Order Says About Mandatory School Visits Three Days a Week

According to the government’s directive, additional directors, regional directors, and deputy directors must conduct inspections every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. These checks are compulsory and are designed to ensure that academic programmes introduced this year are being implemented with accuracy and consistency. Officials have also been instructed to make extra visits during school hours, including checks at evening schools, whenever required.

Key Academic Programmes Under the Scanner: NEEE V, NIPUN, Sankalp, Rashtraneeti and Science of Living

During each visit, officials must pay special attention to the rollout of flagship initiatives introduced in Delhi schools this academic year. These include:

  • New Era of Entrepreneurial Ecosystem and Vision (NEEEV)
  • National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN)
  • Sankalp
  • Rashtraneeti
  • Science of Living
The government wants to ensure these programmes are not just present on paper but are actively shaping teaching practices and improving student learning in real time.

How Officials Will Review Classroom Teaching, Learning Gaps, Discipline and Daily Academic Practices

Every inspection will involve a minimum of 15 minutes of classroom observation. This may include:
  • Random oral or written checks to assess student understanding
  • Verification of syllabus completion
  • Evaluation of lesson plans and teaching-learning materials
  • Scrutiny of timetables and daily teaching schedules
  • Checks on teacher and student attendance
  • Review of discipline and classroom behaviour
Officials are also expected to analyse mid-term examination results, identify learning gaps, and focus carefully on low-performing schools.

Why School Infrastructure, Safety, Cleanliness and Extra Learning Activities Are Now High-Priority Checklist Items

The inspections cover much more than academics. Officers will evaluate how effectively schools are using:

  • Libraries
  • Sports facilities
  • Computer labs
  • Science labs
  • Remedial teaching sessions
  • Enrichment and peer-learning activities
Safety and sanitation are major focus points. Teams must verify:
  • Cleanliness of classrooms, corridors, and common spaces
  • Condition and availability of fire safety equipment
  • Functionality of emergency exits
  • Maintenance of playground areas
The Education Department will actively monitor inspection reports, which are in addition to routine reviews already conducted by district and zone-level teams.
