IRS officer daughter rape case: A 22-year-old woman, daughter of a senior IRS officer, was allegedly raped and murdered at her home in southeast Delhi’s Kailash Hills, with police arresting former domestic help Rahul Meena from Dwarka after a manh...

According to the Delhi Police, the crime took place early on Wednesday morning while the victim was alone at home. Her parents had stepped out for the gym and discovered her lying unconscious upon their return. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
CCTV trail, entry using spare keys under investigation
Police officials said CCTV footage played a crucial role in identifying the accused. He was seen entering the residential complex around 6:30 am and leaving shortly after 7:20 am.“More than 15 teams were formed and deployed across multiple locations in Delhi and Rajasthan. The accused was eventually apprehended from a hotel in Dwarka,” a senior officer told PTI.
Investigators believe the accused used a spare key, which he knew was kept for domestic staff, to gain entry into the house. He was reportedly familiar with the family’s routine and the layout of the residence.
Suspected sexual assault and strangulation
Preliminary findings suggest the victim may have been sexually assaulted before being strangled using a mobile phone charging cable. Police also said she suffered blunt force injuries, indicating she resisted the attack.“We are awaiting the post-mortem report to confirm the sequence of events, including sexual assault,” an officer said.
The accused is also suspected of stealing cash from the house before fleeing the scene.
Prior criminal link in Alwar surfaces
During the investigation, police teams visited the accused’s native place in Rajasthan’s Alwar district, where it emerged that he was allegedly involved in a sexual assault case just a day before the Delhi incident.“A case has been registered against him in Rajgarh, Alwar. He fled from there and came to Delhi,” an officer in Rajasthan told PTI.
Motive may include resentment after dismissal
Police said Rahul Meena had been working with the family for around eight months before being dismissed approximately six weeks ago following complaints about his conduct.“Prima facie, resentment over his termination could be a factor, but the exact motive will be established after a detailed investigation,” the officer added.
Officials also revealed that the accused had been involved in online gaming and had borrowed money from other domestic workers, which he failed to repay.
Security concerns rise in upscale Delhi neighbourhood
The incident has sent shockwaves through the Kailash Hills area, raising concerns about safety and background verification of domestic workers in the capital.Local residents expressed alarm over how the accused, despite being dismissed, could access the house and carry out the crime.
Greater Kailash MLA Shikha Roy described the victim as “a bright and exceptionally talented young woman with a promising future,” adding that her death is a deep loss to the community.
Investigation ongoing, strict action promised
Police said forensic teams have collected evidence from the scene and that a strong case is being prepared.“A comprehensive case will be presented before the court to ensure the accused receives the strictest possible punishment,” the officer said.
Further investigation is underway.
