Delhi IGI airport flight delays turn into 'moye moye' meme fest on social media; Check hilarious ones here

Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) found itself in the midst of chaos as dense fog enveloped the region, causing significant disruptions to flight schedules. The adverse weather conditions led to delays and cancellations, prompting stranded passengers to turn to social media platforms, particularly X, to share their experiences through a wave of memes and posts.


On a Monday morning, more than 100 flights faced delays, and an additional challenge emerged as visibility dropped to zero around 3 am. This low visibility, aggravated by the absence of one of the CAT III-compliant runways, designed for aircraft movement in extremely foggy conditions, intensified the predicament. The situation forced the diversion of five flights to nearby cities like Jaipur and Ahmedabad between 1 am and 5 am.



Passengers expressed their frustration through videos and images circulating online, providing a glimpse into the challenges they faced. Some even resorted to dining on the tarmac amidst the disruptions. The severity of the situation prompted Delhi Airport authorities to issue advisories, advising travellers to check with their respective airlines before heading to the airport.


The chaos extended beyond social media, with videos showcasing tense moments between passengers and airline staff. One viral video captured a passenger expressing discontent towards a captain due to a delay announcement, while another praised an IndiGo manager for calmly explaining the situation to an agitated passenger.


The combination of dense fog and operational challenges due to the unavailability of key runways created a challenging environment for both airport authorities and passengers. As flights faced extended delays and disruptions, social media became a channel for individuals to not only share their grievances but also find a sense of camaraderie through humour and memes amidst the trying circumstances.
