The Delhi government has decided to withdraw the official recognition of Rajinder Nagar private school for refusing to admit students under the EWS quota. It has also not been providing any free stationery, books, and uniforms to the students who have already been admitted under the category said an official on Wednesday.

The JD Tytler School has also been asked to not admit any students for the 2022-23 academic session. They are supposed to pay salaries and arrears to the staff till the school is operational. There was no immediate reaction from the school authorities.

The SC/ST Welfare Committee gave the recommendations for the decision and the order given by the Directorate of Education (DoE) will come into effect from 1st April 2023.

The chairman of the SC/ST Welfare Committee in an interview said that the recommendation was keeping in mind the interest of the children studying in the school. He also said that the concerned district DDE will ensure that the students from JD Tytler School will be accommodated in the nearest government school if they require it.

The DoE has also issued a show-cause notice to other private schools which have been refusing to admit students under the EWS quota. The Welfare Committee has asked the education department to withdraw these schools recognition and register an FIR on the receipt of the complaints against these private schools.

A delegation from the education department has visited the school several times and has held many meetings with the school administration to ensure fair treatment of students and parents from EWS backgrounds, according to an official.
