Delhi government announces winter breaks for schools: Check dates here

Delhi’s Directorate of Education has announced that all government schools will remain closed from January 1 to January 12, 2023 for the winter vacations.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh state authorities have announced the change in school timings in several districts due to the cold weather and heavy fog. The district administrations have said that the schools in the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow, can commence between 10 am to 3 pm until December 31.


The Ghaziabad district magistrate has announced that primary and secondary schools, madarsa education boards, Sanskrit schools can hold classes from 9 am for students of classes 1 to 12 to ensure the safety of students in wake of low visibility in early morning.

The schools in Rajasthan will also remain shut for 12 days from December 25 until January 5, 2023 for the winter vacations. This year the Rajasthan state board reduced the number of days in summer vacation while it has increased the winter vacation days in view of the cold weather in the state.

Similarly, the schools in upper Punjab will remain closed from January 3 to January 13, 2023 while the schools in southern and central Punjab will have winter vacations from December 23 to January 6, 2023. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann had also issued an order earlier to change the schools’ timings. The schools can hold classes commencing no earlier than 10 am. The neighboring state of Haryana has already seen classes starting from 9.30 am from the start of December due to the cold weather conditions in the state.
