When train tickets are hard to find during the festive season, getting home can become a challenge. But one man from Delhi has found an unusual way to make it happen. Rishav Thakur is travelling all the way to Madhubani in Bihar in an auto-rickshaw to celebrate Chhath Puja with his family after nearly three years. His journey has caught people's attention on social media, with many relating to the struggle of finding tickets and making it home for festivals. Instead of giving up on his plans because of unavailable train tickets, Rishav and his companions decided to take their auto and hit the road.

No train tickets, so Delhi friends take an auto to Bihar

In an Instagram video, Rishav explained how the group came up with the idea. He said they had not been able to visit their hometown for Chhath Puja for the past two to three years. With train tickets unavailable, they decided to travel by auto-rickshaw instead.

"Train mein ticket nahi hua, isliye hum logon ne khud ka plan banaya, apna hi auto lekar ghar chalte hain," Rishav said in the video.

The group set off from Delhi with Madhubani as their destination. For them, the unusual road trip is a way to make sure they do not miss another Chhath Puja with their families.

Homemade rotis, packed luggage and breaks on the way

Rishav has also been sharing glimpses of the road trip on Instagram. In one part of the video, he shows the group taking a break to eat rotis they had brought along.

He says they stopped for around 20 minutes before continuing their journey. The break also gave their auto-rickshaw some time to cool down.

The vehicle is packed with luggage and other essentials for the long journey. Rishav also mentions places such as Kanpur and Lucknow while talking about the route ahead.

Unlike a regular road trip, the group has chosen a rather different way to cover the distance. Their journey involves managing food, luggage and regular breaks while travelling in a vehicle usually seen on short city routes.

Why the group is travelling to Madhubani

For Rishav and his companions, the journey is about being home for one of Bihar's most important festivals.

Chhath Puja is celebrated with great devotion in Bihar, Jharkhand and parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh. The festival is dedicated to the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya, with devotees offering prayers to the setting and rising sun.

The celebrations involve fasting, preparing traditional offerings and performing rituals near rivers, ponds and other water bodies. Families often come together for the occasion, making it an important time for people living away from their hometowns to return home.

After missing the festival for nearly three years, Rishav and his friends seem determined to make it back this time, even if it means travelling in an auto-rickshaw.

Internet reacts to Delhi man's unusual Chhath Puja journey

The video has received several reactions from social media users. Many praised the group's determination and wished them a safe journey to Madhubani.

One user commented, "Respect hai bhai emotions of Chhath Puja."

Another wrote, "Sahi hai bhai niklo jo bhi sadhan hai usi se niklo magar apne ghar phucho."

Some users from Madhubani also connected with the journey, while others advised the group to take proper breaks and travel safely.

A few viewers raised questions about the auto-rickshaw's permit and whether it had the required documents to travel across state borders.

For many people living and working away from their hometowns, reaching home during festivals is not always easy. Heavy demand for train tickets, crowded stations and long waiting lists can make travel difficult.
