Delhi fog train and flight status
Dense fog blanketed large parts of Delhi-NCR on Thursday morning, sharply cutting visibility and disrupting road, rail and air movement across the national capital and neighbouring states. Airports reported low visibility, several flights and trains ran late, and commuters moved at a crawl as winter conditions deepened. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), fog prevailed over Delhi during the 6 am observation. Visibility dropped to just 150 metres at Palam Airport, while Safdarjung Airport reported 200 metres, pointing to poor conditions across the city. Delhi recorded a temperature of 11 degrees Celsius at 6 am.

Major roads and highways linking Delhi with NCR cities saw slow-moving traffic as motorists drove cautiously in low visibility. Morning commuters faced delays, adding to the usual rush-hour stress.

Weather officials said foggy mornings are likely to continue over the next few days as winter intensifies.

Delhi Fog: Flights delayed, low visibility procedures in place

Several flights were delayed at Indira Gandhi International Airport due to fog, while multiple trains also arrived late at New Delhi railway station. Passengers were advised to check with airlines and railways for updates.

The Delhi Airport issued an early morning advisory, confirming that Low Visibility Procedures (LVP) had been activated to ensure flight safety.

"Low-visibility procedures are in progress at Delhi Airport. All flight operations are presently normal. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information," the advisory posted on X stated.

Airport authorities asked travellers to stay in touch with airlines as weather conditions could still affect schedules.

  • 19272 Haridwar–Bhavnagar Express – Delayed by 1 hour and 7 minutes

Meanwhile, over a dozen more trains continue to run late at stations under the Northern Railway Zone. Railway authorities have also diverted two Delhi Division trains, the 11078 Jhelum Express and the 12421 Amritsar Superfast Express, due to weather-related operational challenges.

UP shivers under fog and cold wave

The cold wave extended into Uttar Pradesh, where several districts woke up to dense fog and biting cold. In Kanpur, delayed trains left passengers stranded for hours. A waiting passenger told ANI, "I am going to Kota. My train was about to arrive at 8 am, but since it's late, it will arrive at 11 am. There's so much cold here. We are having lots of problems here."

In Moradabad, residents flagged visibility issues and concerns for schoolchildren. A local said, "Today it is so cold here. We witnessed fog in the early morning. I appeal to people to follow the government's guidelines... we are unable to see anything within 100 meters. School-going children are facing most problems..."

Taj Mahal disappears behind fog, bonfires light up cities

Fog swallowed visibility in cities such as Prayagraj and Gorakhpur, where people gathered around bonfires to keep warm. In Agra, the iconic Taj Mahal vanished behind a thick blanket of fog.

"Yesterday, when we came here, it was clearly visible at 7 am, but today, when we are here for a walk, it's not visible at all due to the fog... Since it's the shore of the Yamuna River, there is fog everywhere from all sides," a local from Agra informed.

Air quality worries add to winter woes

Similar weather conditions were reported across Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, raising concerns over air quality. Lucknow saw light fog and slightly better visibility, though air quality varied across locations.

Bareilly recorded a ‘satisfactory’ AQI in the 0-50 range, while Gorakhpur reported a ‘moderate’ AQI of 104. In contrast, Noida struggled with poor air quality, with Sector 125 and Sector 1 recording AQI levels of 328 and 347, respectively.

Delhi continued to battle poor air quality, with residents blaming heavy traffic from neighbouring states.

"All cars coming from outside should be stopped. Cars with Haryana numbers and UP numbers are coming into Delhi in large numbers to jam the roads. Due to pollution, we are coughing, and we are even feeling irritation in our eyes...," a local told ANI.

As winter tightens its grip across northern India, dense fog, biting cold and pollution are combining to make mornings slower, colder and tougher for millions.
