The employee, Pratyush Singh, said he had entered the meeting anticipating a routine review of performance metrics, achievements and future targets, as is typical in corporate appraisal cycles. Instead, he encountered a gesture that he described as beyond expectation.
During the meeting, he was told that his work had been well received and that the organisation was satisfied with his professional growth. He was then informed that an appraisal gift was waiting outside the meeting room.
Singh initially believed the statement was a joke. However, upon stepping out with colleagues, he found an SUV parked outside, marking a rare form of employee recognition.
He said he was left speechless by the gesture, noting that appraisal processes usually involve increments, bonuses or employee stock options rather than material gifts of this nature.
Singh shared his experience on LinkedIn, describing it as an unreal moment in his professional life and expressing gratitude for the recognition. He added that such experiences can motivate employees to work harder, remain humble and feel valued.
The incident has been highlighted by Singh as an example of evolving workplace culture, which he suggested could influence how future startups recognise employee contributions.
