Delhi commuters to face traffic curbs on Sept 2 due to BRICS Summit rehearsal; check advisory, diversions, routes to avoid and more

The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory ahead of a motorcade rehearsal for the BRICS Summit 2026, warning commuters of restrictions and diversions across several key roads in the national capital on September 2.

The rehearsal will be conducted between 10 am and 3 pm. The 18th BRICS Summit is scheduled to be held on September 12 and 13 at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.

Traffic restrictions on 35+ roads

Traffic movement will be regulated at 22 diversion points and more than 35 roads during the rehearsal, officials said. Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and use alternate routes wherever possible.


Major roads likely to be affected include Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Mathura Road, Moti Lal Nehru Marg, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Brigadier Hoshiar Singh Marg, Africa Avenue Road, Satya Marg, Shanti Path, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Ranjeet Singh Flyover, Niti Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Kamal Ataturk Marg, A P J Abdul Kalam Road and Press Enclave Road.

Diversions at key junctions

The traffic police has identified several diversion points, including Dr Dinesh Nandini Dalmia Chowk, Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk, Mir Dard Chowk, Kasturba Gandhi Marg/Outer Circle, Janpath-Connaught Place, Patel Chowk, RML Hospital roundabout, Dhaula Kuan flyover, Moti Bagh flyover, Lodhi Road and Mandir House.

Vehicles approaching controlled stretches will be diverted through alternate corridors such as Ring Road, IP Marg, BSZ Marg, Delhi Gate, Sikandra Road, Lodhi Road, Aurobindo Marg and Vande Mataram Marg, among other arterial routes.

Railway station, airport travel advisory

The traffic police has issued separate alternate-route plans for passengers travelling to New Delhi, Old Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations.

Those travelling to the airport have been advised to use the Metro, particularly during the 10 am to 3 pm advisory window.

Specific road corridors have also been suggested for passengers travelling to the airport from Gurugram, Dwarka, New Delhi, South Delhi, West Delhi, North Delhi and East Delhi, while avoiding regulated stretches.

Metro services to remain operational

Metro services will continue to operate during the rehearsal, although bus routes may be diverted during VIP movements.

Taxis and auto-rickshaws will not be allowed to park along roads except at designated locations. Non-destined commercial vehicles will also be prohibited from entering Delhi during the regulated period.

Emergency vehicles to get passage

Emergency and medical vehicles will be provided obstruction-free passage, while essential services and utilities will continue to have access.

The traffic police has advised commuters to start their journeys early, especially those travelling to airports, railway stations and ISBTs. Commuters have also been asked to follow instructions from traffic personnel and avoid roadside parking within 200 metres of controlled roads.

People have been advised to report any suspicious object or activity to the nearest police officer.
