Delhi Christmas Traffic Advisory: Saket malls under traffic watch
According to the advisory, traffic diversions will be enforced around Select City Mall, DLF Avenue Mall and MGF Metropolitan Court Mall in Saket to ensure smooth vehicular movement and public safety amid heavy footfall. Press Enclave Road and several internal roads of Saket and Pushp Vihar will be affected during the restricted hours.Diversions will be implemented at key junctions, including Sheikh Sarai red light on Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Asian Market Red Light on Mehrauli-Badarpur (MB) Road and PTS Malviya Nagar Red Light on Sri Aurobindo Marg.
Connaught Place, India Gate under special watch
Delhi Traffic Police said its main focus will be on ensuring smooth vehicular movement at Connaught Place, Hauz Khas, busy markets and areas near malls. At Connaught Place, only vehicles with valid stickers issued by Delhi Police will be allowed into the Inner Circle.Additional force will also be deployed at India Gate, which traditionally sees massive crowds during New Year celebrations. Police personnel will be stationed near hotels and party zones across the city.

As part of the traffic plan, all median cuts from Sheikh Sarai to Hauz Rani will remain closed. Heavy vehicles and DTC or cluster buses will not be allowed on both carriageways of Press Enclave Road. DTC and cluster buses will also be barred from moving towards Pushp Vihar from MB Road via the Asian Market Red Light, the advisory said.Alternative routes for commuters
To help commuters avoid delays, traffic police have suggested alternate routes. Those travelling from Chirag Delhi towards Qutub Minar should use the route via Khanpur T-Point, MB Road and Lado Sarai T-Point.Commuters heading from the IIT Flyover towards Sangam Vihar or Sainik Farm have been advised to take the route via TB Hospital red light, Lado Sarai red light, MB Road, Chirag Delhi and Khanpur red light.

Nearly 20,000 personnel on festive duty
Beyond traffic management, Delhi Police has stepped up security across the city. Nearly 20,000 police and paramilitary personnel will be deployed to maintain law and order during Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations, an official said.Police presence has been strengthened in border areas as Delhi shares boundaries with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and lies close to Rajasthan. A large influx of visitors from these states is expected for New Year celebrations.
Borders, markets and party hubs in focus
Additional pickets, barricades and paramilitary deployment will be put in place at border points to curb nuisance and maintain order. Police personnel have already been deployed at more than 10 locations for Christmas, with security checks set to intensify. Deployment will also increase at 15 entry points into the city."The traffic police have already chalked out a plan to combat motorcycle stunts and drunk driving. Additional forces from different police stations will be deployed to help the traffic police," a senior police officer said.
Zero tolerance for stunts and violations
Station house officers have been instructed to remain on the roads with their teams during Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Police teams will immediately impound two-wheelers or four-wheelers if anyone is found performing stunt-like activities. Strict action will follow, officials said."Our teams are checking bus stands, railway stations, hotels, dharamshalas, night shelters and other locations to verify if anyone is staying without providing proper documents. We have already launched our special drive to identify those who are staying illegally in the national capital," he added.
Traffic checkpoints with breath analysers, barricaded checkpoints and Quick Reaction Teams will remain active at strategic locations, as Delhi braces for festive celebrations with a mix of cheer, checks and careful driving.
