At least 21 people lost their lives in Karachi on Wednesday after heavy rain and strong winds caused walls, roofs, and trees to collapse across various parts of the city, according to police and rescue officials.

“The total number of people killed in accidents across the city has reached 21,” Rescue 1122 said in a statement, as teams continue clearing debris and searching for more victims, as reported by Arab News.

The country’s meteorological department stated that the rainfall was accompanied by powerful winds, with speeds reaching up to 97 km/h in certain areas, and warned of unstable weather conditions.

The most severe incident occurred in Moach Goth, a low-income locality in Baldia Town, where 13 people died after a wall collapsed while they were standing beside it to shield themselves from the rain.

Rescue 1122 also provided details of other incidents across the city. In Qur’angi No. 3, a woman named Sheeta died after the roof of her house collapsed. In Memon Goth, a man identified as Hazrat lost his life due to electrocution. A four-year-old girl died when a wall fell at her home in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. In Neelam Colony, a woman was killed after a tree fell onto her house.
