Dahisar toll plaza to shift 2km north, bringing relief for Mira-Bhayandar commuters
The Dahisar toll plaza on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway will be shifted. The new location will be 2km north of the current spot. This decision aims to reduce traffic congestion for Mira-Bhayandar residents. Eknath Shinde announced the relocation. T...

The highway is a key link between Mumbai, India’s financial hub, and Ahmedabad. Over the years, rising traffic has turned the Dahisar naka into a hotspot for gridlock, delaying motorists not only on the highway but also across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, particularly in Mira-Bhayandar, located just outside the city limits.
Under the new plan, the toll plaza will shift north of Mira-Bhayandar, near the Versova bridge on the highway, leaving this stretch toll-free. Officials clarified that toll revenues would not be affected, since levies on small vehicles were waived at Mumbai’s five entry points—two at Mulund, and one each at Dahisar, Vashi, and Airoli—before last year’s assembly polls. Currently, only heavy vehicles are charged, but traffic pile-ups continue as smaller vehicles line up alongside trucks and trailers despite being exempt.
The relocation is also seen as carrying political weight, given that transport minister Pratap Sarnaik’s constituency includes part of Mira-Bhayandar. Both Sarnaik and Shinde are Shiv Sena leaders.
