A consumer court had ordered Ola Cabs to pay Rs 95,000 to a customer who was overcharged for an incomplete journey in Hyderabad.

The consumer, Jabez Samuel was billed and forced to Rs 861 for a journey he made in October 2021. The driver had dropped him off midway after going for a distance of around five kilometres. He also alleged that the cab driver behaved rudely and refused to turn on the air conditioner.

He was then forced to skip some scheduled events because he had to make other arrangements. But he was then billed Rs 861 for the incomplete journey. Samuel then made a complaint via email over the excess bill. He then received a from the customer care executive but the call wasn't transferred to a higher official.

He was then frequently called by customer care executives asking him to pay the bill and he then paid Rs 861 in January 2022.

Samuel filed a case in a consumer court and asked for compensation of Rs 4,99,000. But the court found the amount exorbitant.

The court however, did ask Ola to refund the Rs 861 with interest of 21% per annum as well as Rs 88,000 for mental agony and Rs 7,000 towards any expenses incurred during the proceedings.
