Cristiano Ronaldo becomes first to reach 500 million Instagram followers, thanks fans with special video

A Louis Vuitton commercial featuring football's biggest names - Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo - has propelled Portugal star Ronaldo's social media to new records, with the former Manchester United player becoming the first person to amass 500 million followers.

The Vuitton commercial featuring Messi and Ronaldo engaged in a game of chess, garnered 72 million likes, split 38 million - 29 million between Ronaldo's and Messi's accounts, respectively.

With a horde of new followers, the Portuguese captain has overtaken prominent superstars like Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner.


Following the achievement, Ronaldo posted a special video on his account thanking his internet supporters and followers. He captioned the photo saying his life, work, and views are always shared with his fans. Everyone is a part of his tale, and they have accomplished so much together. More than he could have imagined.
