The death of Connor Murphy has shocked the online fitness community in US, with fans mourning the loss of the popular American bodybuilder and content creator. The 32-year-old Connor Murphy, also a YouTube star, died in a drowning incident in Thailand, but in the hours after the news broke, an old video falsely claimed to be his "last video" spread rapidly across social media.

The viral clip fueled speculation about the circumstances surrounding Connor Murphy's death, but Community Notes on X later clarified that the video was recorded years earlier. It also confirmed that the video has no connection to the events leading up to Murphy's death.


Is Connor Murphy's viral 'last video' real?

One of the biggest talking points following the Connor Murphy death has been a video circulating widely on X.

In the clip, Murphy appears visibly distressed as he speaks directly to the camera. "I'm just trying to remind myself because I'm really high. It's getting weird. I feel like I am dying every second. So I'm just making this video so I can watch it and remind myself. Am I dreaming? Is it real?"

The video quickly went viral, with many social media users claiming it had been recorded shortly before his death. But, it turned out to be false. A Community Note attached to the post clarified that that the recording is several years old and is not Connor Murphy's final video.

What was Connor Murphy and what happened to him?

Connor Murphy was a popular US fitness influencer who amassed more than 2.7 million followers across YouTube and Instagram. He had built a huge audience through his Connor Murphy YouTube channel and social media platforms.

He first rose to fame by posting bodybuilding content, fitness challenges, workout advice and physique transformation videos. His confidence, fitness lifestyle and prank videos helped him attract millions of followers.

According to Thai authorities, Connor Murphy reportedly died in an apparent drowning in Thailand's Samut Prakan province. The incident occurred on July 7, where emergency responders received reports of a foreign man entering a lake while behaving erratically.

Police said rescue divers searched the lake for around 30 minutes before recovering Murphy's body about 20 metres from the shore.

Officials said there were no visible signs of physical assault.

Investigators are reviewing a video reportedly recorded by an employee at the residential property where Murphy had been staying. According to police, the footage allegedly shows Murphy experiencing what witnesses described as a psychotic episode before running toward the lake and swimming into deeper water.

Authorities believe he eventually became exhausted before drowning.

Police investigation is ongoing

Police have confirmed that Murphy's body has been sent for an autopsy, while toxicology tests are being conducted to determine whether any substances may have contributed to the incident.

During a search of the property, investigators reportedly recovered two unused syringes from Murphy's vehicle and unidentified white pills inside a waist bag.

Authorities have not confirmed whether either item had any connection to his death.

Murphy's girlfriend, who reportedly told investigators they had been together for about three years, said she had never seen him use drugs while they were living together.

Thai police have also notified the U.S. Embassy as the investigation continues.

Fans pay tribute after Connor Murphy's death

Following the Connor Murphy death, tributes poured in across social media from fans who remembered his influence during the early days of fitness content on YouTube.

Many recalled how his bodybuilding videos inspired them to begin working out, while others reflected on his later struggles and hoped he had found peace.

As of now, authorities have not announced a final cause of death beyond confirming that Murphy drowned. The results of the autopsy and toxicology tests are expected to provide more clarity into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

With the investigation still underway, officials have urged people not to speculate based on unverified social media posts, including the viral video that was incorrectly described as Murphy's final recording.
