Jasprit Bumrah, currently taking a break from the Indian cricket team due to a back injury, found himself in the midst of a heartwarming tribute at Coldplay's second concert in Ahmedabad on Sunday, January 26. As the band performed at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the crowd was electrified, and one particular moment left fans and Bumrah himself utterly delighted. Chris Martin, Coldplay’s iconic lead singer, dedicated a song to the Indian pacer, making the evening even more memorable.

A Humorous Tribute from Chris Martin

The highlight of the evening came when Chris Martin, with a smile, serenaded Bumrah, singing, "O Jasprit Bumrah, my beautiful brother. The best bowler in the whole of cricket. We did not enjoy watching you destroy England, wicket after wicket." This playful tribute had the audience roaring with laughter, and even more so when Bumrah’s signed Test jersey was displayed on stage as a sign of respect. The tribute resonated deeply with cricket fans, as reflected in the myriad of comments on social media: "Legend appreciating legend," said one, while another called it "goosebump moment." The impact was clear—Bumrah’s presence and Coldplay’s acknowledgment created an unforgettable atmosphere.

Coldplay's Ongoing Affection for Bumrah

This wasn’t the first time Coldplay had paid homage to Bumrah. During their Mumbai concert, they had previously aired a video showing Bumrah running through England’s batting line-up during their 2024 Test series. But it was in Ahmedabad that the band took things further. In a lighthearted moment, Chris Martin had joked that they had received a legal notice from Bumrah's lawyers for using his name without permission: “I’m so sorry, but I have to read a letter from Jasprit Bumrah’s lawyer... otherwise, we could be sent to prison and wouldn’t be able to perform in Ahmedabad,” he quipped. The humorous skit foreshadowed the surprise that unfolded later that evening, with Bumrah himself in the crowd.

A Night of Celebration and Recognition

The tribute became the talk of social media, with fans expressing their admiration for the bond between the legendary fast bowler and the band. The show was live-streamed on Disney+ Hotstar, allowing viewers to witness the surreal moment as Bumrah, typically known for his prowess with the ball, enjoyed a different kind of spotlight. The audience’s cheers were deafening as they acknowledged the unique recognition given to one of India’s finest cricketers.

Bumrah's Injury Update: A Return on the Horizon

Though Bumrah has been away from the Indian team due to a back injury, his fans remain hopeful for his return. The injury occurred during the final Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and as a result, he was omitted from India’s T20I and ODI squads against England. However, Bumrah’s fitness will be assessed before the Champions Trophy, set to begin on February 19. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar has stated that Bumrah’s availability for the group stage matches will depend on his recovery.
