Claude for Teachers: Anthropic has rolled out Claude for Teachers, a new version of its AI assistant built exclusively for K-12 educators in the United States. The new offering gives eligible teachers a free access to premium Claude features, helping them create lesson plans, personalize classroom learning, reduce paperwork and save valuable time.

"We're introducing Claude for Teachers, providing verified K-12 educators in the US free access to premium Claude capabilities, a library of teaching skills, and a direct connection to evidence-based curricula, mapped to academic standards in all 50 states," Anthropic said in a blog post.

The AI company said the initiative is designed to let teachers spend less time on administrative work and more time teaching. One of the biggest highlights is that educator and student data shared through Claude for Teachers will not be used to train Anthropic's AI models, addressing one of the biggest concerns around AI adoption in schools.

Free Claude for Teachers: Who is eligible?

Anthropic announced that verified K-12 educators in the United States who sign up by June 30, 2027, will receive one year of free access to Claude for Teachers. The free plan includes premium Claude capabilities along with classroom-focused AI tools, curriculum resources and teaching support tailored specifically for educators.

The company said the program has been designed to support teachers across all 50 US states.

The company said, "Once verified, K-12 educators in the US get access to Claude for Teachers with the Learning Commons connector and a set of tailored teaching skills grounded in learning science. The skills, co-developed with Learning Commons, were designed around the tasks teachers told us mattered most. These were evaluated to ensure rigor, pedagogical alignment, and classroom usability, and refined through early feedback from classroom teachers, including those in schools like Prospect Schools in Brooklyn."

Anthropic promises strong privacy protections

Privacy remains one of the biggest concerns around AI in education, and Anthropic says Claude for Teachers has been built specifically with schools in mind.

The company stated that the service complies with the U.S. Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and includes dedicated privacy terms along with a K-12 Data Processing Addendum.

Anthropic also emphasized that data shared through Claude for Teachers will not be used to train its AI models.

In its announcement, the company said: "The initiative aims to help teachers save time on lesson planning, personalise learning for students and reduce administrative work, allowing them to spend more time teaching."

It further added: "Data shared through Claude for Teachers will not be used to train its AI models."
