CJP claims UP Police raided home of Mohd Junaid, who was serving food and water at Jantar Mantar, detained his family members

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), in a post on X, claimed that its volunteer Mohd Junaid was harassed by Uttar Pradesh police. The party posted on X, “Instead of going after criminals, UP Police is wasting its time going after our volunteer Mohd Junaid who has been serving food and water to people. Now they’re harassing him and his family in UP. Our team is in touch with him and we will never let them victimise him or his family. It is no longer shocking how this govt responds to dissent, but we will not be intimidated by these cowards. Every illegal action of the Police will be challenged in courts."

The CJP claimed that the Uttar Pradesh Police have reportedly raided the house of Mohd Junaid and have also taken his father and minor brother in custody. The party also claimed that Junaid's sister's father-in-law and her husband's brother were also reportedly detained.

What did Mohd Junaid say?

Mohd Junaid, a resident of Ghaziabad, alleged that police detained his family members in Ghaziabad and harassed his relatives in Meerut because of his role in the agitation. Junaid told mediapersons at Jantar Mantar on Friday that UP Police took away his family members and seized their bank passbooks and PAN cards during a raid at his house.

According to his family, police from Ghaziabad's Masoori police station reached their residence in Nahal village on Thursday evening and searched the premises.

They alleged that Junaid's father, Mustafa, was taken away by the police and that bank passbooks and PAN cards belonging to family members were also taken.

Junaid's sister told the media that police asked her father to call Junaid and ask him to return home. Junaid also alleged that the police also harassed his relatives in the neighbouring Meerut district.

Police deny allegations

Meerut Police denied carrying out any action against Junaid's family. Senior Superintendent of Police Avinash Pandey told PTI on Saturday, "No such matter has come to my notice."

Superintendent of Police (City) Vinayak Gopal Bhonsle told PTI that Meerut Police had verified the claims with all police station heads and found that no member of Junaid's family had been detained.

"If any other district's police has taken any action, the details would be available with that district," Bhonsle said.

Senior Ghaziabad police officers could not be reached for comment despite repeated attempts.

CJP, govt to meet for third round of talks

The development comes at a time when CJP will meet the government for third round of talks pressing on their demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Speaking to ANI amid the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar over the NEET paper leak issue, CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said the meeting was expected to take place between 3.30 pm and 4 pm, though the venue had not been finalised.

"They had given us the time for 3.30-4 pm today. The location has not been finalised yet. Discussions are very clear. We should get written confirmation for the two demands on which there has been in-principle agreement. So that they can be closed. We need clarity over Dharmendra Pradhan - whether they will seek his resignation or not. We want an answer in Yes or No because there is not much scope for deliberation over this," Ranka said.

This comes after Social activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his 26-day-long hunger strike in the presence of Nadda and Jitendra Singh at Medanta Hospital after receiving a written assurance from the Union Government regarding the NEET examination issue and systemic reforms in the country's competitive testing framework.

Meanwhile, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said he has been diagnosed with typhoid. At least 18 Delhi Metro stations in central Delhi remained closed for the fourth straight day due to “security concerns”.
