Chinese cat accidentally sets house on fire, causes Rs 11 lakh damage

A cat in China accidentally turned on its owner's induction cooker, setting the home on fire and causing more than 100,000 yuan (Rs 11,67,641) in damages. The cat, named Jingoudiao, was playing in the kitchen when it stepped on the cooker's touch panel, igniting the blaze that burned the entire first floor of the owner's loft in southwestern China's Sichuan province.

Dandan rushed back to her flat in southwestern China's Sichuan province and discovered that her cat, Jingoudiao, was responsible for the fire. The cat had been playing in the kitchen and accidentally stepped on the induction cooker's touch panel, turning it on. The blaze burned the entire first floor of her loft. Fortunately, firefighters later found Jingoudiao hiding in a cabinet upstairs, covered in ash but unharmed.

After the incident, Dandan changed Jingoudiao's Douyin account name to "Sichuan's most badass cat" and made him appear on live-streaming sessions to "compensate." She joked about making her cat "work to pay off his debt" and even labeled him as an "arsonist."


A few days later, Dandan posted a letter of apology online, signed with her fingerprint and Jingoudiao's paw print. She admitted that the incident was her fault for forgetting to switch off the power to the cooker. Dandan vowed to pay more attention to fire safety in the future.
