China has witnessed a sudden surge in COVID19 cases, after which the Asian powerhouse started to stockpile lemon. Consequently, lemon prices have soared substantially in the country, especially because the Chinese populace considers lemon as a natural immunity booster.

According to media reports, China could increase lemon stocks in the coming days, which could raise the prices of lemons in India as well. However, experts suggest enough substitutes for lemon to boost energy for Indians. Some of these alternatives are mentioned below.

Ginger and Garlic

Ginger and garlic have been used as immunity boosters in India for millennia. They are as much known for their medicinal properties as for their flavours. Ginger and garlic are especially effective for cough and cold. Ginger is high in anti-inflammatory and antioxidant elements, while garlic is rich in allicin.

Turmeric contains curcumin, which has high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. It also acts as an antiviral that helps boost immunity and fight harmful bacteria. A decoction of turmeric mixed with other Indian spices like clove, cinnamon, pepper, etc., hugely helps in improving immunity.

Meat and Fish

Chicken, red meat, and fish are loaded with proteins that help build and repair tissues. Such proteins also contain amino acids to develop antibodies to prevent infections. A bowl of chicken or lamb’s bone soup helps a great deal in fighting cold and cough. Likewise, fish meat contains zinc that helps build inner strength.
