China sentences "XXX Return of Xander Cage" actor Kris Wu to 13 years in prison for raping minor

Kris Wu, the Chinese-Canadian singer and actor, was sentenced to 13 years in prison by a Chinese court on Friday. He was convicted of rape as well as group licentiousness. He will be deported after serving his term, according to the court.

According to reports, Wu was detained and accused in August last year. His case was heard without media access in June. Du Meizhu, a beauty industry influencer, filed allegations against Wu in July 2021. The woman took to social media to accuse the actor and musician of raping her when she was 17 and drunk.

Du also accused him of having done the same to two more young ladies, both minors. Wu first rejected the accusations, and the police appeared to sympathise with him. However, two weeks later, the Chaoyang District People's Procurator's Office in Beijing issued an official statement stating that Wu's arrest had been approved after an investigation by the law.


Rape is typically punishable by three to 10 years in jail in China; however, in highly heinous cases, the sentence can be imprisonment or even the death penalty. Group licentiousness, defined as sex with three or more individuals over 16, carries a five-year prison term.
