Chicken Shop Date girl Amelia Dimoldenberg has announced that it is shutting down the programme. The British presenter and comedian announced on Instagram that she has decided to end the series, though fans will get a few more episodes before she closes the chapter. Dimoldenberg, who created the show as a young journalist and presenter, looked back on how the idea began in her latest Instagram post. She recalled being 17 when she imagined that she might meet the love of her life while on a date in a chicken shop.

What started as an unusual idea eventually became the project that defined much of her twenties. “I’ve spent my entire twenties sitting across from the most incredible people,” Dimoldenberg wrote, reflecting on the celebrities she has interviewed over the years.

She said the people who appeared on the show were often those she had dreamed of meeting. Some charmed her more than others, she joked, while adding that she believed she had managed to charm them too.

Chicken Shop Date Closing: Amelia says it was ‘her very own romcom’

For Dimoldenberg, Chicken Shop Date was more than a celebrity interview format. She described it as her “very own romcom”, with every episode becoming another story for audiences to watch.

The show's deliberately awkward dates and deadpan conversations helped make it stand out from conventional celebrity interviews. Over time, Dimoldenberg's style became closely associated with the series. She said she was grateful to the viewers who had followed the journey and found some joy in the episodes.

The decision to stop was not something she had always expected. “I never thought I’d stop Chicken Shop Date,” she said, adding that she once imagined it might remain part of her life forever. But she now feels ready for something different.

Amelia Dimoldenberg says ‘Time to move on’

Dimoldenberg said the show will always remain a part of her in some way, but she believes it is now time to leave the adventure behind and begin another one. The announcement does not mean Chicken Shop Date is ending immediately.

Before saying goodbye for good, Dimoldenberg plans to return with a few final dates. She said those episodes are “coming very soon”, giving fans one last opportunity to see the format that helped establish her as a familiar name in entertainment.

For viewers who have followed the series from its early days, the announcement marks the end of a distinctive era. For Dimoldenberg, it appears to be something else: the chance to start the next chapter after years of turning awkward celebrity dates into a show of her own. She signed off her announcement simply: “Love Amelia x”.
