This marks the sixth day (Shashthi Tithi) of the Shukla Paksha in the Kartik month, when lakhs of devotees observe a day-long waterless fast and offer prayers to Lord Surya for the health and prosperity of their family and children.

According to the Hindu calendar, the Shashthi Tithi of Kartik begins at 6:04 am on October 27, 2025, and ends at 7:59 am on October 28, 2025.

The evening Arghya to the setting Sun is one of the most sacred moments of the Chhath festival. Families gather near rivers, ponds, or temporary water bodies to perform rituals together.

Chhath Puja 2025: Rituals

After completing Nahay Khay and Kharna rituals, devotees begin their 36-hour-long waterless fast. They carry fruits, flowers, thekua, rice laddus, sugarcane, coconuts, and other offerings in bamboo baskets to the Chhath Ghat.

At sunset, devotees offer Arghya to the setting Sun using a brass vessel and circumambulate the deity five times. Lamps are lit on the ghats, creating a divine glow as families pray for happiness and good health.

On the morning of October 28, the ritual continues with an offering to the rising Sun. The fast is then broken with prasad, marking the completion of this deeply spiritual festival.
