Last year, news about a conman marrying and defrauding 27 women came to light.

But now, in a role reversal, a woman is accused of cheating several men after promising to marry them.

As per a report in the Times of India, the woman conned several men, including a doctor, a businessman, a software engineer, and the marketing head of a private firm.

The woman, against whom cases have been registered at three police stations, is currently absconding. Now the Chennai city police commissioner has instructed subordinate officers to transfer the case to the cybercrime wing of the city police.

The woman, identified as Manjula V, is 40 years old. She is a resident of Mylapore.

Incidentally, she is already married and has stayed at a house in Mylapore.

The case came to light after a businessman, Satishkumar, accused Manjula of harassment.

Satishkumar claimed that the lady had been running a firm in Mylapore and befriended him on a social media platform. She then started sending him messages through WhatsApp and Facebook during odd hours, claimed the businessman.

Satiskumar claimed that Manjula sent him several photographs of her through WhatsApp. However, Manjula later posted Satishkumar’s photographs on social media platforms along with derogatory messages.

Following a complaint from Satishkumar, police registered a case under Section 66 (D) (punishment for cheating by personation by using computer resources) and Section 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

Meanwhile, Manjula’s husband and daughter also lodged complaints against her after they learned about her affairs with several people, according to the Times of India.

In 2022, a conman was arrested who allegedly married and conned 18 women across India. The conman, Bibhu Prakash Swain, allegedly posed as a doctor to marry professors, lawyers, medics, and even a paramilitary officer.
