Chennai weather: IMD expects rains, thunderstorms; Check forecast for January 9 and weekend

Chennai is expected to witness a partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. Temperatures are likely to hover between a minimum of 24°C and a maximum of 28°C. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely.

The IMD said under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation, a low-pressure area formed over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining East Equatorial Indian Ocean. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal on Wednesday and then continue west-northwestwards across Southwest Bay of Bengal.

Due to this, on Saturday (December 10), Chennai and adjoining districts is likely to get moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorm and lightning is likely to occur in some areas. Heavy rain is likely to continue on Sunday. A heavy rain warning has been issued for the region on both days.
