Schools across several regions including Chennai are being shut down as severe weather continues to impact the southern parts of the country. Cyclone Ditwah has significantly affected daily life, causing widespread disruption. Currently positioned over the southwest Bay of Bengal, the cyclone is expected to move north-northwest, drawing nearer to the coastlines of Chennai, Puducherry, and southern Andhra Pradesh.

Tiruvannamalai Announces Local Holiday for Karthigai Deepam Festival

The famous Karthigai Deepam festival at the Sri Arunachaleswarar (Annamalaiyar) Temple in Tiruvannamalai is set to take place on December 3, attracting lakhs of devotees from various parts of the state. In anticipation of the large crowd and to ensure the smooth management of the event, the Tiruvannamalai District Collector has declared a local holiday for the district.


As per the announcement, all government offices, schools, colleges, and state-run institutions in the district will remain closed on December 3, except in cases where examinations have already been scheduled.

Kanyakumari Declares Local Holiday for Kottar Peralaya Festival

A local holiday has been announced for schools, colleges, and government offices in Kanyakumari district in connection with the Kottar Peralaya festival. The celebrations are expected to draw participants not only from Tamil Nadu but also from Kerala, resulting in significant public activity.

In view of the festival, the district administration has declared December 3 (tomorrow) as a holiday for the district, during which schools, colleges, and government offices will remain closed.

To compensate for the holiday, authorities have confirmed that schools and colleges will function on Saturday, December 6, 2025.

Tamil Nadu continues to remain on high alert as the state prepares for another spell of intense rainfall. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has issued warnings for 10 districts on December 2, with a depression persisting over the Bay of Bengal expected to bring more severe weather.
