Chennai: Robbers lock bank staff in toilet, escape with gold worth crores

The robbers took away the keys of the strong room and locked the employees in the toilet and decamped with the looted gold, said Shankar Jeewal, Chennai Police Commissioner.

Three masked robbers looted at least 32 kg of gold worth several crores from a bank in Chennai after they locked staff in the toilet.

The incident took place at the Arumbakkam area brach of FedBank Fast Gold Loan, a subsidiary of Federal Bank, reports said.

The robbers took the keys to the strong room, locked the employees in the toilet and decamped with the looted gold,Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jeewal said .


Reports quoted the police as saying they were investigating if it was an inside job. The employees were reportedly doing fine

A video shared on the internet showed a security guard saying he fell asleep after he consumed a soft drink offered by robbers, but there was no official confirmation on its authenticity.
