Chenab Bridge over the clouds: See these breathtaking pictures

The Ministry of Railways has shared on Twitter some splendid photos of the Chenab Bridge, the highest rail bridge in the world, standing tall above the clouds.

Four photos taken during different times of the day showed the Chenab bridge, with its steel glinting in the sunlight, set in the background of blue skies and lofty mountains.

A sight of the breathtakingly beautiful Chenab Bridge, the ministry posted to Twitter.



The bridge over the Chenab river in the Kouri area of Reasi district in Jammu & Kashmir was in the news on August 14, when the overarch deck of the bridge was completed with a golden joint.

The bridge, standing 359 m above the riverbed, comprises 93 deck segments, each weighing around 85 tonnes, is on the single line linking Katra (Jammu) with Qazigund (Kashmir), some 75 km away.

The bridge is part of the 272-km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link (USBRL) project is aimed at joining Jammu with the Kashmir valley as an all-weather highspeed alternative.

The 272-km long railway line will have 38 tunnels (total length of 119 km) with the country's longest tunnel T-49 (12.75 km),and 927 big and small bridges (total length 13 km).

In addition to the Chenab Railway Bridge, 16 additional bridges are also being built on the rough terrain to connect Kashmir region with the rest of the country.

In November 2017, the base supports were declared completed allowing for the start of the construction of the main arch.[8] The bridge was fully completed and was inaugurated in August 2022.

After the photos were shared on Twitter, there was instant applause at the engineering marvel.

"When Engineering meets Clouds, Dreams come true, said one user. "Looks like "Harry Potter series" or like thor's Asgard." commented another. Yet another called it the eighth wonder of the world.
