Chaturmas 2026 Start Date: Check when four-month period is starting and ending
Chaturmas Kab Se Lag Raha Hai: Chaturmas 2026 begins July 25 and concludes November 21, pausing auspicious ceremonies. Lord Vishnu's Yoga Nidra marks this four-month spiritual observance period. Sawan month honors Lord Shiva with special prayers a...

The Chaturmas dates quietly decide when banquet halls fill up, when jewellery shops see their rush, and when the wedding season itself switches on and off. Tradition holds that Lord Vishnu withdraws into a four-month Yoga Nidra during this stretch, and until he wakes up, the auspicious calendar effectively goes silent. This year's twist: both bookend dates, July 25 and November 21, fall on a Saturday, precisely 119 days, or exactly seventeen weeks, apart.
Chaturmas 2026 Date: Why Some Calendars Say November 20 Instead
Not every website agrees on the closing date, and there's a genuine reason for that. The Ekadashi tithi this year is what panchang-makers call a "Kshaya Tithi", it starts on the morning of November 20 but slips away again before sunrise on November 21. Under the standard rule that gives sunrise the final say, the fast and the formal end of Chaturmas both land on November 21, even though the tithi technically began a day earlier. That's the gap you'll notice if you compare listings across sites.Sawan Opens the Door for Shiva
The first month, Sawan, runs from July 30 to August 28 this year across North India. Jalabhishek, Rudrabhishek, offering Belpatra and reciting the Shiva Sahasranama on the Shivling are all considered especially fruitful through this stretch, alongside the four Sawan Somwar fasts that fall along the way. Devotees who worship Shiva through Sawan are believed to see good results in married life, health, planetary dosha and personal wishes.Krishna and Ganesha Share Bhadrapada
Bhadrapada follows from August 29 to September 26, and this month splits its spotlight between two deities. Krishna Janmashtami and Ganesh Chaturthi both fall here, drawing crowds to temples and pandals alike. Worship of Shri Krishna, recitation of the Shrimad Bhagwat and general devotion through this month are believed to bring good results connected to love, happiness, peace and the joy of having children.Ashwin Maas
Ashwin stretches from September 27 to October 26, carrying a double weight of significance. Pitru Paksha begins right at the start of the month, followed by Sharadiya Navratri closer to its end. Recitation of the Durga Saptashati, worship of the Goddess, and Tarpan rituals to remember ancestors are all considered auspicious through this period, one that devotees seeking victory, good fortune or mental strength are said to find especially meaningful.Kartik Wakes Vishnu, and the Wedding Season
The final month, Kartik, runs October 27 to November 24, hosting the year's festival heavyweights: Diwali, Tulsi Vivah and Devuthani Ekadashi. Lord Vishnu is believed to rise from his Yoga Nidra on Dev Uthani Ekadashi, November 21, and Manglik works resume across the country from that day, even as Kartik month itself carries on for a few more days till its full moon. Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu remain the primary deities worshipped through this closing month. So mark the two Saturdays, July 25 and November 21, and expect the wedding invites, along with the temple queues, to pick up right on schedule once Chaturmas 2026 wraps.
