ACP (Traffic) Sachidanand told PTI, Kumar was flung into the air after being struck by the vehicle before crashing back onto the road. He was immediately taken to a nearby private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning.
FIR filed, murder charge added after death
Kumar’s brother, Akshay Kumar — also a traffic constable — lodged an FIR at the Vijay Nagar police station following the incident. After Kumar’s death, a section for murder was added to the FIR, police said.
Driver arrested, admitted to overspeeding
The accused driver, identified as Vinit alias Binney from Sadar Pur village, was allegedly intoxicated and driving at 120 kmph. During interrogation, he told police he did not notice the constable.
Guard of honour before last rites
Vipin Kumar’s body was sent for post-mortem and later given a guard of honour at the police lines on Sunday afternoon before being handed over to his family.(With inputs from PTI)
