ChatGPT Intelligent UI: OpenAI rolls out update that will give interactive answers with diagrams, buttons and tools to explain topics

OpenAI has introduced Intelligent UI in ChatGPT with its latest GPT-6 models, adding interactive elements such as diagrams, charts, forms and tappable buttons to responses. The feature is designed to allow ChatGPT to determine when an interactive format could be more useful than plain text and, in some cases, create task-specific tools such as calculators directly within the chat.

ChatGPT Intelligent UI turns answers into interactive experiences

Intelligent UI is designed to change how ChatGPT presents information based on the type of question a user asks. Instead of relying only on written responses, ChatGPT can combine text with interactive visuals and controls when they are considered more useful.

According to OpenAI, the model is trained to determine when an interactive response would improve the user's experience. Depending on the query, an answer could include a side-by-side comparison, an interactive diagram, a chart, a form or tappable buttons.


The feature was introduced alongside GPT-6 in ChatGPT.

Interactive diagrams can explain complex topics

OpenAI demonstrated Intelligent UI with a prompt asking ChatGPT to break down the design of a seven-speed bicycle.

Rather than providing only a written explanation, ChatGPT can generate an interactive diagram of the bicycle. Users can select different elements, such as the wheels or drivetrain, to explore the relevant components.

The approach is intended to make explanations of complex subjects more visual and easier to navigate.

Intelligent UI can also generate functional interfaces for specific tasks. OpenAI said ChatGPT can create tools such as calculators for splitting bills or even interfaces for playing retro games within the chatbot.

GPT-6 can decide how to present an answer

A key aspect of Intelligent UI is that users do not necessarily have to request an interactive interface separately. GPT-6 is designed to assess the question and determine whether an interactive format would be more useful than a conventional text response.

When it selects that format, the response can combine written information with diagrams, charts, forms, buttons and other interactive elements.

This makes the presentation of an answer dependent on the task rather than limiting ChatGPT to a single text-based format.

GPT-6 brings faster responses and improved search performance

Alongside Intelligent UI, OpenAI has introduced GPT-6 as the next generation of its models in ChatGPT.

OpenAI said GPT-6 can begin responding while it continues processing a request, allowing ChatGPT to start producing an answer sooner. The company also said the model performs better on web searches and begins responding to search-based questions faster on average than GPT-5.6 Instant.

OpenAI said GPT-6 also showed stronger resistance to attempts to bypass its safety training and improved its ability to recognise and communicate the limits of its capabilities.

ChatGPT Intelligent UI rollout begins globally

GPT-6 with Intelligent UI is rolling out globally in the Chat tab for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users.

Free and Go users are scheduled to receive access to the new models and Intelligent UI from this week. Higher-tier subscribers will use GPT-6 Sol, while Free and Go users will receive the more efficient GPT-6 Luna model.
