The video surfaced just a few days after the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) issued a statement urging passengers to observe social etiquette when using public transportation. Following an incident in which a female passenger was seen wearing clothing that was considered inappropriate by fellow passengers, the Delhi Metro issued a statement calling on all commuters to adhere to social norms and protocols.
The Delhi Metro statement emphasized that passengers should refrain from engaging in activities or donning attire that could be offensive or upsetting to others travelling on the metro. The DMRC reiterated its expectation that all individuals using public transportation maintain a level of conduct that is respectful and considerate of fellow commuters.
The Delhi Metro also called on its passengers to uphold proper behaviour while using public transportation, urging them to maintain decorum and act responsibly. While the choice of attire while travelling is deemed a personal matter, the DMRC emphasised that passengers should regulate their own conduct in a manner that is respectful and considerate of others. The statement also noted that indecency is considered a punishable offence under Section 59, underscoring the importance of adhering to proper social norms while travelling on the Metro.
Previously, a separate video captured a physical altercation between two women over a seat and surfaced on the internet. In the video, the women can be seen physically assaulting each other while also engaging in verbal abuse. At one point during the altercation, one of the women deployed a self-defence spray in response to being struck by the other. The incident is considered highly inappropriate behaviour within the confines of the metro premises, where all passengers are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and non-violent manner.
