The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will open the re-evaluation process for 2026 on June 1, marking the start of the post-result review procedure amid widespread concerns raised by students over this year’s evaluation and answer-sheet assessment system.

According to official data, more than 4 lakh students have applied to access copies of their evaluated answer books following the declaration of the CBSE Class 12 results. The board has received over 11.31 lakh applications for answer scripts, while around 8.98 lakh scanned copies have already been made available digitally.

Re-evaluation results expected in June or July

CBSE Class 12 re-evaluation results are generally declared between 30 and 45 days after the application process concludes.

Since the extended application window for re-evaluation and answer-sheet access will remain open until late May 2026, the revised results are expected to be announced in June or early July 2026.

CBSE revises fee structure after criticism

Following objections from students and parents, CBSE revised the fee structure for post-result services.

Under the updated structure, students will have to pay Rs 100 per subject to obtain scanned copies of evaluated answer sheets in the first stage. For verification of marks or issues identified in the answer book, the fee has also been fixed at Rs 100 per subject.

For the final stage involving re-evaluation or rechecking, students will be charged Rs 25 per question.

Earlier, the fees for these services were significantly higher, drawing criticism from students already dealing with evaluation-related and technical issues.

The board has also stated that re-evaluation charges will be refunded if marks increase after the review process.

Process for applying for re-evaluation

Students seeking re-evaluation must first obtain scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets through the official CBSE portal.

After reviewing the answer books, students can apply for verification if they identify discrepancies in marking or calculation. They may subsequently request re-evaluation for specific questions where they believe marks were not awarded correctly.

CBSE has clarified that marks after re-evaluation may increase, decrease or remain unchanged. The revised scores, once updated, will be treated as final.

Concerns raised over new digital evaluation system

The large number of requests comes after criticism surrounding the implementation of the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system introduced for Class 12 board examinations this year.

Under the new process, examiners evaluated scanned digital copies of answer sheets instead of physical answer books. CBSE introduced the system to improve efficiency and transparency in the evaluation process.

However, several students alleged discrepancies after the results were announced. Complaints included unchecked answers, calculation mistakes, incomplete evaluation, blurred scans and technical problems while accessing answer sheets online.

The issue gained attention on social media after students shared screenshots and raised concerns regarding the evaluation process.
