CBSE opens LOC window for Class 10 second exams 2026; Check dates, eligibility, and key details
The Central Board of Secondary Education has announced the schedule for submitting the List of Candidates for the Class 10 second board examinations in 2026. This new system, part of the National Education Policy 2020, allows students to reappear ...

Under the updated framework, students can reappear in up to three subjects during the May 2026 session. Officials stated that the second examination is intended to reduce exam stress and provide students with greater flexibility to enhance their performance.
School principals noted that the option could benefit students who feel they did not perform well in key subjects. “It is too soon to know how many will opt for it, but it benefits students who believe they could have done better in subjects such as mathematics, science or social science,” said Tania Joshi, principal of The Indian School. She added that students should make this decision carefully, explaining that significant improvements such as from 45 to 70 or 70 to 90, make the option worthwhile, while minor increases require thoughtful consideration.
According to a teacher, the system is expected to be used by students unhappy with their marks, those aiming for admission into preferred streams like Science or Commerce, and even high achievers seeking slight score improvements to strengthen their academic profile.
The first phase for LOC submission will be open from March 18 to March 31. Further phases will be introduced after the results are declared, including a brief window with a late fee. The portal will remain open until 11:59 pm on the last day of each phase.
Only students who appeared in the main board exams and took at least three subjects are eligible. Those who have passed but want to improve their marks can reappear in up to three subjects. Students placed in the compartment category are also eligible, subject to certain conditions. However, those who did not appear in at least three subjects will need to wait for the next annual examination cycle.
