Caught on CCTV camera: Man poses as hospital staff to kidnap newborn baby

In a shocking incident from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, a man allegedly posed as an employee of Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College Hospital to steal a newborn child.

According to the parents of the infant, a young man befriended them as hospital staff and took the child from them on the pretext of getting the baby vaccinated.

In a 15-second long video, the accused, who was wearing a mask, could be seen carrying a baby wrapped in a white cloth and moving out of the hospital premises.


According to the complaint filed with the Kithor police station, Neenu, a resident of Mahalwala, Kithor, said that his wife Dolly gave birth to a son on Monday afternoon. It was the next day that a young man approached them as an employee of the hospital and befriended them. Later, that employee told them that he needs to take the baby for the vaccination and Dolly handed over the child to him.

The parents got worried, when that man did not return for a long time and they could not find their child anywhere and called the police. While scanning the CCTV footage, taken from the hospital, the police saw a man leaving the hospital with the child in his arms.

A case had been registered against an unidentified person by the police and the search started for the kidnapper and baby. To get some clues, the video clip of the incident had been also shared on Twitter.

Police recovers newborn baby
In a big relief to the parents, the police recovered the newborn baby boy, from a house in Phoolbagh locality in Meerut, as reported by The Hindustan Times.

A woman and her husband have been taken into custody by the police for alleged involvement in the kidnapping. Keshav alias Deepak was identified through the CCTV video footage and police raided the house in Phoolbagh colony late on Wednesday to recover the baby boy, HT quoted Station house officer, medical college police station, Bacchu Singh as saying.

“Our priority was to recover the boy safely,” said Bacchu Singh and added “those in custody would be interrogated to know the motive behind the crime”.

Uttar Pradesh, the biggest state of India in terms of population with over 240 million inhabitants, has a high crime rate including kidnappings. In 2022 until the end of June, 78 children were kidnapped across India, of which 64 were from UP alone, Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Zubin Irani recently informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.
