A speeding car rammed into three other stationary cars and an ambulance on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai early on Wednesday morning, killing five people and injuring eight others.

This is how it happened according to the police. A car initially hit a divider on the bridge and an ambulance was rushed to the spot for assistance. The occupants of two other cars also halted their vehicles to provide help. At that time, another car coming from behind at high speed rammed into three stationary cars and the ambulance.

The accident took place around 3 am between pole numbers 76 and 78 on the south-bound stretch of the sea link bridge, which connects Bandra in western suburbs to Worli in south Mumbai.

The accident was caught on CCTV and a video clip which went around on social media showed the ambulance and the three other cars stopped on the bridge. A speeding car then comes into frame, apparently driven at high speed, and ploughs into the other four vehicles on the bridge.

Thirteen people, including a woman and a Sea Link employee, were injured and five of them were later declared dead during treatment. Six of the injured were undergoing treatment in different hospitals. Two others were allowed to go after being treated for minor injuries, PTI reported quoting the police.

An IANS report identified the dead as: Stenar Jagdish Kadam, 36, Somnath Barnale, 32, Rajendra Singhal,40, Gajraj Singh, 42, and Satendra Singh, 35.
