Cut to 2025, she married another man and started living in Vanasthalipuram in Hyderabad. According to the police investigation, Sunitha had filed a domestic violence complaint against Mahesh, following which a Look-out Circular (LOC) was issued against him. When Mahesh returned to India last year after his mother’s death, he was intercepted at the airport, and his passport was seized.
“Since he could not return to Canada because of the LOC, he was deeply disappointed. He also held a grudge against Sunitha for filing the case and for remarrying earlier this year,” B Anuradha, DCP, L B Nagar, told TOI. Mahesh was taken into custody after a brief standoff in which he allegedly threatened to set the room on fire with a lighter he was carrying.

How Mahesh planned Sunitha's murder
According to the police, Mahesh moved back to his native place in Peddapalli district without any job. He allegedly tracked Sunitha's address through her social media account, moved to Hyderabad and planned the murder while staying at a hostel.Police said he arrived at the apartment carrying a bag containing two knives, a drilling machine, a chainsaw, and a five-litre petrol can. He barged into the fourth-floor apartment of Sunitha (29) at Green City Colony around noon on Wednesday, went straight to her room and locked it from inside.
“Mahesh got into a heated argument with her and, within minutes, attacked Sunitha with the knives. He stabbed her multiple times on various parts of her body, including her head,” T Mahesh, inspector, Vanasthalipuram, told TOI.
On hearing Sunitha's screams, other family members rushed to her room and found Sunitha lying on the floor in a pool of blood. By then, the accused had locked himself in the washroom,” the inspector added.
At the time of the attack, Sunitha’s mother-in-law was on the terrace drying clothes, while her brother-in-law was working in another room. Sunitha was working from home.
Police said they had to break open the bathroom door to apprehend the accused. CCTV footage aired by local television channels showed the accused walking along the apartment corridor with the bag shortly before the crime. A case of murder has been registered against Mahesh.
