Prior to joining Chelsea, Saltor spent a decade at Brighton, where he made 235 appearances and became a legend of the south coast club. He was also instrumental in their promotion to the Premier League in 2017 and captained the team for years before retiring in 2019. After hanging up his boots, Saltor became part of the Brighton coaching staff and joined Chelsea to serve as a member of Potter’s backroom team.
Despite the sudden change in leadership, Saltor remains optimistic about his new role. He has expressed his admiration for Potter and his desire to improve the team every day. “My ambition is to improve every day and try to show who I am and be myself. That is what I'm going to try to do in the next few days,” Saltor said during his first press conference as interim head coach.
Saltor has big shoes to fill, as Chelsea faces a challenging schedule with a game against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals on April 12. Nonetheless, he is focused on guiding the team to victory and helping the players prepare for the upcoming games. “How I see it is I have to be the most professional I can, try to help the players, guide the players to prepare for the game the best we can,” he said.
