UP bride on the run fearing arrest after firing gun during wedding; video goes viral

A recent video has been doing the rounds on social media and it shows a bride firing a gun in a celebratory fashion at her own wedding. According to a report by the Times of India, the incident took place in the Salempur village of Hathras district on Friday night after the garland exchange ceremony.

The celebratory firing however wasn't much of a celebration for the bride however after the Hathras Junction police registered a case against her under section 25 (9) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to the in charge of Hathras Junction Police, Girish Chand Gautam, the person in whose name the license of the firearm was issued was also booked on Sunday.


“Whoever uses firearm in a rash or negligent manner or engages in celebratory gunfire so as to endanger human life or safety of others shall be punishable with an imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine which may extend to rupees one lakh, or with both,” reads section 25 (9) of the IPC.

Piyush Rai uploaded the video on Twitter as he wrote, “In UP’s Hathras, a groom sat with “kato toh khoon nhi" face next to the bride."


According to the police, the bride did the same thing while at a guest house in Salempur area of Hathras.

In the video, she can be seen sitting with the groom on her marriage stage. Then, a person can be seen handing her a firearm, which she then fires in the air before returning the firearm.

The bride however, has absconded after the police filed a case against her.

In a similar incident, another bride was booked under the Arms Act for firing a gun in celebration during her wedding in June 2021. The bride identified as Rupa Pandey had fired in the air from the licensed revolver of her uncle Ramvas Pandey before going to the stage for the garland ceremony in the Jethwara area of Uttar Pradesh.
