Delhi traffic alert: BRICS Summit rehearsal on September 5, roads to avoid and routes for airport travel
Delhi Traffic Police has issued a public advisory ahead of the BRICS Summit 2026, with restrictions planned during a motor carcade rehearsal on September 5. Traffic movement will be regulated at 22 diversion points, while more than 35 roads may face restrictions around Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan. The rehearsal is scheduled from 10 am to 4 pm, ahead of the BRICS Summit from September 11 to 13, 2026.
The advisory includes route changes for motorists, special guidance for travellers heading to railway stations and airports, and instructions on parking, commercial vehicles and public transport. Emergency and medical vehicles will continue to receive priority access.
BRICS Summit 2026 traffic advisory: Date, time and venue
The motor carcade rehearsal is scheduled for Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 10 am to 4 pm.
The venue is Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan. The main BRICS Summit will be held from September 11 to 13.
Traffic authorities have identified 22 diversion points and more than 35 roads where movement may be regulated during the rehearsal period.

Roads affected by BRICS Summit traffic restrictions
The advisory covers a wide network of roads across central, south, west and other parts of Delhi.
The roads listed for regulation include Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Mathura Road, Moti Lal Nehru Marg, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Brigadier Hoshiyar Singh Marg, Africa Avenue Road, Satya Marg, Shanti Path, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Ranjeet Singh Flyover, Niti Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Kemal Attaturk Marg, APJ Abdul Kalam Road, Press Enclave Road, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Josef Broz Tito Marg and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg.
BRICS Summit 2026: 22 diversion points and alternate routes
Traffic will be diverted at 22 designated locations during the rehearsal. Key restrictions and alternate routes listed in the advisory are as follows:
Dr Dinesh Nandini Dalmia Chowk (W-Point): Movement towards Mathura Road and Tilak Marg will be restricted. East and South Delhi traffic can use BSZ Marg and IP Marg; central, north and west Delhi traffic can use BSZ Marg and Delhi Gate, while New Delhi and Connaught Place traffic can use Sikandara Road.
Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk (A-Point): Commercial vehicles will not be allowed beyond the chowk towards W-Point. Alternate routes include IP Marg for East/South Delhi, DDU Marg for New Delhi/Connaught Place and BSZ Marg-Delhi Gate for central, north and west Delhi.
Mir Dard Chowk: Traffic towards Maharaja Ranjit Singh Marg will be diverted through Mir Dard Marg and Abdul Gaffar Marg or through Mir Dard Marg and Kotla Marg towards BSZ Marg/DDU Marg.
Kasturba Gandhi Marg/Outer Circle, Connaught Place: Traffic towards C-Hexagon will be diverted onto the Outer Circle and other arterial roads, excluding Janpath.
Janpath/Connaught Place: Traffic headed towards C-Hexagon from Outer Circle will be diverted. Alternate roads include Kali Bari, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Panchkuian, Minto and Barakhamba roads for central, north, west and east Delhi traffic.
Patel Chowk: Traffic towards Windsor Place and RBI on Sansad Marg will be diverted towards Ashoka Road and GPO, or Sansad Marg and Connaught Place, depending on the direction.
RML Hospital roundabout: Vehicles heading towards Mother Teresa Crescent and Talkatora Road will be diverted through Sheikh Mujibur Rehman Marg or Baba Kharak Singh Marg.
Vande Matram Marg/Simon Bolivar Marg: Traffic will use Vande Matram Marg towards Dhaula Kuan or Karol Bagh depending on the origin.
Dhaula Kuan: Movement on Sardar Patel Marg will be regulated. Alternate routes include Ring Road, Vande Matram Marg and NH-48/Gurgaon Road for airport and Gurugram traffic.
Moti Bagh Flyover: Traffic towards Shanti Path will be diverted via Ring Road or Rao Tula Ram Marg.
Brigadier Hoshiyar Singh Marg roundabout: Vehicles heading towards Africa Avenue and Yashwant Place will use Brigadier Hoshiyar Singh Marg or Africa Avenue and the Bhikaji Cama Flyover.
Madarsa T-Point: Traffic towards Aurobindo Marg will be diverted through Lodhi Road or Aurobindo Marg and Safdarjung Flyover, depending on origin.
Lodhi Road/Amrita Shergil Marg: Traffic on Amrita Shergil Marg will be diverted through Lodhi Road.
Lodhi Road/Max Mueller Marg: Vehicles heading towards Max Mueller Marg will use Lodhi Road.
Lodhi Road/Maharishi Raman Marg: Traffic towards Maharishi Raman Marg will use Lodhi Road, while South Delhi traffic can also use Bhishm Pitamah Marg.
Lodhi Road/Archbishop Macarius Marg: Traffic heading towards the road will be diverted onto Lodhi Road.
Under Lodhi Flyover: Traffic heading towards Bharat Mandapam on Mathura Road will use Lodhi Road, Neela Gumbad, Barapullah Flyover or other specified alternatives depending on origin.
Neela Gumbad: Traffic towards Oberoi Flyover and Dr Zakir Hussain Marg will be diverted through Mathura Road and Ashram Chowk or via Lodhi Road.
Under Oberoi Flyover: Mathura Road traffic will be diverted towards Lodhi Flyover through the U-turn underpass opposite DPS Mathura Road. Vehicles bound for Oberoi Hotel and Golf Link will be permitted.
U-turn opposite DPS, Mathura Road: Vehicles headed towards Bharat Mandapam will be diverted through Lodhi Flyover and the U-turn underpass.
Ring Road/Bhairon Road: Traffic towards Bhairon Marg will use Ring Road via Sarai Kale Khan or Rajghat depending on direction.
Mandi House: Movement on Feroz Shah Road, Bhagwan Das Road and Copernicus Marg will be diverted via Barakhamba Road or Sikandra Marg.
Alternate routes for railway stations
The advisory provides separate routes for passengers travelling to Delhi's major railway stations during the regulated period.
ISBT Kashmiri Gate → Ring Road → Raj Ghat → Ring Road → Ashram Chowk → Mathura Road
Airport travel advisory during BRICS rehearsal
Delhi Traffic Police has advised passengers travelling to the airport to allow additional time and consider using the Metro during the advisory period.
From Gurugram
For T3, T4 and T2, the suggested route is NH-48 → Rao Gajraj Singh Marg → Old Delhi Gurugram Road → UER II → Service Road → T3 Terminal Road.
For T1, motorists can use NH-48 and the Mahipalpur Flyover towards T3 Road, or NH-48 → Ulan Batar Marg → T1 Road.
From Dwarka
For all terminals, the suggested route is Sector 22, Dwarka Road → UER II, using the new tunnel to T3.
From New Delhi and South Delhi
For T3, the route is Ring Road → AIIMS Chowk → Moti Bagh Chowk → RTR Marg → under Shankar Vihar Flyover → Sanjay T-Point → Service Road → NH-48 → under Mahipalpur Flyover/Rangpuri → T3 Road.
For T3, T4, T2 and T1, travellers can also use AIIMS Chowk → Ring Road → Moti Bagh Chowk → RTR Marg → Shankar Vihar Flyover → Ulan Batar Marg.
From West Delhi
The suggested route is Punjabi Bagh Chowk → Ring Road → Raja Garden Chowk → Najafgarh Road → Pankha Road → Dabri → Dwarka Road → Road No. 224, Dabri-Gurugram Road → Sector 22, Dwarka Road → UER-II → Service Road/NH-48 → T3 Terminal Road.
Metro, buses, taxis and autos during traffic restrictions
Metro services will remain fully operational at all stations, with no disruption specified in the advisory.
Buses may be diverted during VVIP movements. Taxis and autos will continue to operate, but diversions may affect their routes. Roadside parking is prohibited except in designated areas.
Public advisory: Emergency vehicles and commercial traffic
Emergency and medical vehicles will receive priority, with authorities stating that obstruction-free passage will be maintained 24/7 across Delhi.
Essential services and utilities will also retain uninterrupted access for supplies and operations.
The advisory asks commuters travelling to airports, railway stations and ISBTs to allow additional time and use public transport where practical.
Non-destined commercial vehicles are prohibited from entering Delhi during the applicable restrictions.
Parking, safety and official updates
Motorists have been asked to park only in authorised locations. Roadside parking within 200 metres of controlled roads is strictly prohibited.
Commuters are also advised to follow instructions from traffic personnel, comply with road rules and avoid unnecessary delays around regulated corridors.
The public has been asked to immediately inform the nearest police officer about unidentified objects or suspicious activity.
