Counting of votes for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2026 will start on Friday, with results expected to start coming in as the day progresses. BMC Election Result 2026: What to expect and what Exit polls have predicted

Exit polls have indicated a strong performance by the ruling Mahayuti alliance in the BMC elections.

Surveys by Axis My India and JVC have suggested that the BJP–Shiv Sena alliance could cross the 130-seat mark. The Shiv Sena (UBT)–MNS alliance is projected to be far behind with around 60 seats, while Congress is expected to win about 20 seats.

These elections are the first BMC polls after the 2022 split in the Shiv Sena, adding political weight to the outcome.

BMC Elections 2026

The last BMC elections were held in 2017. Fresh polls were delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Supreme Court rulings related to OBC reservations and issues linked to ward delimitation.

Polling for the current civic elections saw nearly 50% voter turnout across Mumbai and 28 other municipal corporations. State election commissioner Dinesh Waghmare said voter turnout across the 29 civic bodies was estimated between 46% and 50%, with final figures to be released later.

Mumbai BMC Election Results 2026: When will the BMC poll results be announced?

According to the State Election Commission, counting of votes for municipal corporation elections across Maharashtra will take place on January 16. The process is scheduled to begin at 10 am.

For the BMC elections, votes will be counted in batches, with two constituencies taken up at a time to ensure an orderly and transparent process.
