A 26-year-old Biocon employee allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the fifth floor of the biopharmaceutical company’s building on Hosur Road in Electronics City Phase II on Tuesday. The motive is yet to be ascertained, reported PTI.

The deceased has been identified as Anant Kumar, a resident of Banashankari in south Bengaluru. His father, Srinath, is a temple priest, according to the PTI report.

An engineering graduate, Anant had been working in Biocon’s finance department for the past six months, according to the police.

"The canteen is on the fifth floor of the building. Anant was seen speaking on a mobile phone and walking out of the canteen. He went to the terrace and jumped. We did not find a death note," an investigating officer told TOI, adding: "He was shifted to a hospital where he was declared dead."

In a statement, Biocon said: "As the matter is currently under investigation by the authorities, we are unable to share further details at this stage."
