Bill Gates gifts his books to Ratan Tata during Mumbai meeting

Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, met with Ratan Tata, former chairman of the Tata Group, on his visit to Mumbai on Tuesday. The Tata group chief N Chandrasekaran was also a part of the meeting, who received the books from Gates as well.

Two pictures from the meeting were shared on Gates Foundation India’s official Twitter handle. The caption to the post reads: ‘Our co-chair and founder, @BillGates had an enriching discussion with @RNTata2000 and N Chandrasekaran, about their philanthropic initiatives.’ They added that they are looking forward to strengthening their work together and partnering for health, diagnostics and nutrition.

Bill Gates and Ratan Tata are two of the largest philanthropists in the world. Gates works with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which focuses on improving global health and reducing poverty. Tata, on the other hand, is known to have donated more than half of his income to charity. He has made several generous donations under the name of Tata Trusts and on an individual level.




Gates has had a packed schedule in India as he met with various ministers and business leaders. The American businessman and philanthropist met with Shaktikanta Das, the governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), to discuss various issues including financial inclusion, payment systems, microfinance, and digital lending among others. He also met with cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar and his wife Anjali on the same day.

Gates met Anand Mahindra, the chairman of the Mahindra Foundation, who was also his classmate at Harvard. Anand was also gifted with autographed copies of Gates’ books. They conversed about social impact, rather than technology and industry.

He also met Union Ministers Mansukh Mandaviya and Rajeev Chandrashekhar. Gates met with YouTuber and actor Prajakta Koli who was appointed as a member of an advisory group of The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation last year.
